As we previously reported, Paramount is prioritizing large-scale event movies with broad appeal and traditional heroic themes, and is even revisiting the world of Zack Snyder. Now, Deadline confirms that the studio is starting to develop two new G.I. Joe movies, which supports our earlier findings about the company’s strategic shift.

Two G.I. Joe Movies in Development
According to Deadline, Paramount has two different G.I. Joe projects in early works.
Danny McBride is considering developing a story outline, and Max Landis has already completed one. Lorenzo di Bonaventura, who produced the Transformers movies, is overseeing both projects.
Paramount also has multiple Transformers projects in early stages.
Following a hint of a Transformers and G.I. Joe team-up in Transformers: Rise of the Beasts, reports suggest that idea is still being explored.

This Fits Paramount’s Event Film Strategy
This news confirms what we’ve heard from sources inside the company: the Ellisons are focusing on large-scale movies based on well-known franchises and aimed at a wide audience.
Both Transformers and G.I. Joe are major franchises with already established fans, especially people from Generation X who remember the toys and cartoons from the 1980s.
The original G.I. Joe movies, featuring actors like Bruce Willis, Dwayne Johnson, and Channing Tatum, made a total of $678.1 million around the world. But the later film, Snake Eyes, released in 2021, wasn’t as successful, earning only $40 million globally.
The Michael Bay Transformers franchise has brought in billions, and Bay is also said to be returning.
Robert Kirkman, the creator of The Walking Dead and Invincible, also owns the comic book rights to Transformers and G.I. Joe. He’s reportedly working on a new animated series for adults.
