For fans of G.I. Joe, there’s some interesting news – both good and strange. Paramount is working on two separate movie scripts to revive the franchise. Danny McBride, a well-known actor and writer, is developing one, while Max Landis is leading the other. Strangely, Paramount is hoping to eventually merge these two independent projects into a single movie.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Paramount is developing a new G.I. Joe movie with two different writers. Max Landis is working on a story treatment, and Danny McBride is writing a separate script. However, Paramount reportedly plans to combine elements from both into a single final movie, according to THR’s Borys Kit.
….Sure. That sounds like nonsense guaranteed to fail, but sure.
It’s unusual to see this creative choice for a potential new G.I. Joe film. However, the bigger surprise is the hiring decision itself. Max Landis, age 40 and son of director John Landis, has faced significant backlash since 2019. That’s when The Daily Beast published a detailed report featuring credible accusations of emotional, physical, and sexual abuse from eight women.

Since the allegations surfaced, Landis has acknowledged making “serious mistakes” and behaving poorly, but he maintains his innocence regarding the most severe claims. He has not been formally charged with any wrongdoing.
It’s a little surprising that, with so many talented screenwriters in Hollywood who could have written a compelling story about toy soldiers battling a villainous group like Cobra, this particular writer was chosen for the job.
We’re really excited about the script for the new G.I. Joe movie written by Danny McBride, and we’re eager to see where the franchise goes from here.
