Crunchyroll’s updated list of the top 10 anime in the U.S., released on September 24th, showed some unexpected changes. “One Piece,” typically a chart-topper, dropped to ninth place, as eight other series gained popularity and moved ahead.
Gachiakuta took first place, earning recognition for its original story and distinctive animation. Kaiju No. 8 and The Water Magician were close behind, both praised for exciting action and well-developed characters.
Shows like Jujutsu Kaisen and Dandanda continued to be incredibly popular, staying ahead of even One Piece thanks to strong fan support and consistent quality. Newer series such as Tate no Yuusha no Nariagari and I Was Reincarnated as the 7th Prince also quickly gained a following with their creative stories and interesting worlds. Rounding out the top ten was Solo Leveling, which viewers loved for its beautiful animation and close adaptation of the original webcomic.
This decrease in viewership isn’t a temporary issue. One Piece was already outside the top five most popular shows yesterday, suggesting its weekly audience in the U.S. is dropping. Viewers on Crunchyroll seem to be enjoying newer anime with great animation and compelling stories, and this might be why One Piece is facing more competition after so many years.

The shows that have replaced One Piece are earning praise from both critics and fans. Gachiakuta is being recognized for its smart blend of comedy and thrills, and Kaiju No. 8 is getting positive reviews for its well-timed and visually impressive monster battles.
Fans and critics continue to praise Jujutsu Kaisen for its stunning animation and powerful emotional stories. Similarly, Solo Leveling has been well-received for successfully adapting its original webcomic into an animated series.
This shows that even hugely popular anime like One Piece have to compete with exciting new shows. While fans still love the Straw Hats, newer series are successfully grabbing attention and becoming popular too.
