One of the Longest-Running MTV Shows Is Getting Cancelled

After 14 years and 46 seasons, the comedy clip show Ridiculousness, hosted by Rob Dyrdek, is finishing its run. While old episodes will still be shown through 2026, the show won’t be making any new ones.

Well, folks, it’s official: Season 46 is going to be the last one. It’s a bit sad to say goodbye, but the good news is you’ll still be able to catch old episodes on MTV and stream some of your favorites on Paramount+.

According to a source, the network—now owned by Paramount—is planning to focus on a smaller selection of shows and movies that showcase unique creators and a willingness to try new things.

It’s currently unknown how the cancellation of Ridiculousness will affect MTV’s programming, or how much the network depended on the show to fill its schedule.

Having aired for over 1,700 episodes, Ridiculousness is a cornerstone of MTV’s programming. For years, the show has been a major presence on the network, frequently taking up over 100 hours each week of MTV’s total broadcast schedule.

This show, which began in August 2011, showcases funny videos of stunts and pranks gone wrong. Rob Dyrdek and his co-hosts provide humorous reactions and commentary. Previous co-hosts have included Chanel West Coast and Lauren “Lolo” Wood.

The show was canceled soon after Bloomberg revealed that Rob Dyrdek was making at least $32.5 million a year. This included bonuses and payments for his work as an executive producer ($21,000 per episode) and for appearing on camera ($61,000 per episode, which increased over time). Because the show produced so many episodes yearly, these payments quickly became substantial.

TV industry experts say the end of Ridiculousness signals a big change for MTV. This comes as the network adjusts its strategy after Paramount combined with Skydance in an $8 billion deal. The show was on the air for a long time and was a key part of MTV’s shift from playing music videos to showing clip compilations.
