One legendary band might be releasing music few want to hear

As a longtime Van Halen fan who’s seen their music evolve over decades, I must say I’m intrigued by Alex Van Halen’s upcoming memoir, “Brothers.” While I’ve always been interested in the dynamics between the band members, I can’t help but feel a bit apprehensive about the potential future “music” releases.

Alex Van Halen is currently making efforts to promote his upcoming memoir titled “Brothers“. The book will hit the shelves on October 22 and, as you might surmise, it delves into the unique bond between Alex and his renowned sibling Eddie Van Halen. However, keep in mind that it won’t be filled with juicy gossip or revelations.

In an interview with Billboard, Alex Van Halen expresses that there is excessive negativity surrounding Eddie, much of which is untrue. Rather than adding to the trash talk, Alex aims to clarify the facts. For him, the book serves not as a platform for disparaging others but as a means to share the truth about Eddie’s story.

In a recent chat, I shared some insights about a captivating instrumental piece titled “Unfinished” that’s included in the audiobook version of our memoir. This tune could hint at more unheard gems from Van Halen, potentially ourselves – Alex and Eddie.

Alex Van Halen discusses potential future “music” releases involving Eddie Van Halen

It’s possible that there could be a twist here: Alex mentioned to Rolling Stone magazine that he has discussed with OpenAI about transforming old recordings into complete songs. This could imply that when listeners hear these songs, they may not be entirely from real human musicians, suggesting that Eddie Van Halen’s influence might not be as prominent in the final compositions.

Sadly, Eddie succumbed to a stroke in the year 2020. His music was a joy to many, and while there are fragments of his songs remaining, they seem incomplete. To create a full song from these parts, some elements may need to be enhanced or artificially constructed.

Alex also shared with Billboard that “the other perspective is it’s not typical Van Halen.” So why release this music? There will undoubtedly be an audience for it, but might the authenticity of the music be compromised? By offering merely fragments of songs and employing AI to make them seem fuller?

I hope it’s not true that Alex won’t be refining the guitar parts Eddie made and instead, he’ll only add pre-recorded music. If that’s the scenario, the entire project appears to be more about making money rather than genuine musicianship.
