One legendary band is surprisingly on the verge of delivering a new album

As a lifelong Styx fan who has witnessed their electrifying performances since the days of “Lady” and “Come Sail Away,” I can’t help but feel a surge of excitement upon hearing that the band is working on new music. Despite the fact that their 2021 album, “Crash of the Crown,” was largely overlooked by the masses (it peaked at number 114 on the Billboard charts – come on people!), I remain optimistic about this upcoming release.

It’s rare for many groups to consistently produce exceptional music over several decades. Not every band can be like Depeche Mode, of course. Often, legendary rock bands will cease creating new albums but continue touring instead. This way, fans can enjoy the classics without having to deal with the potential disappointments that come with new tracks.

It appears that when it comes to Styx, their old material can be discarded as they are working on a new album. According to Ultimate Classic Rock, guitarist Tommy Shaw stated that the band is finalizing a new LP. Intriguingly, the band has an abundance of songs, which could potentially lead to them releasing two albums filled with fresh content.

As a gamer, I can’t help but wonder what else Shaw might say about his new album. After all, who in their right mind would announce that their upcoming work is going to be subpar? That’s not exactly a game-winning strategy!

Tommy Shaw says a new Styx album is on the horizon

Styx has been quite active on the road, seldom taking a break for touring. Despite the fact that their sound may not reach the heights it did when Dennis DeYoung was the lead vocalist, they’ve still got some exciting news: they’ve announced new concert dates in 2025! The band will be joining forces with Kevin Cronin from REO Speedwagon for a tour called the Brotherhood of Rock, which is set to run from May 28th to August 24th. With such an extended timeline, it seems there will be ample opportunity to catch one of their shows!

Shaw indicates that the upcoming album will consist primarily of tracks inspired by his personal life, suggesting that there won’t be any songs akin to “Mr. Roboto” on it. It’s also important to note that he wouldn’t entertain such a repeat of the chaos associated with that track in relation to the band.

Perhaps there’s a chance that the band can continue creating powerful and anthemic tunes. Just because they might not top the charts doesn’t necessarily make their music inferior. It could simply be something that more people ought to appreciate.
