As a devoted admirer, I must express my awe at the innovative creation by Oigall Projects for the Melbourne Art Fair. In stark contrast to their past masterpieces, their latest installation offers a captivating deviation. Guided by the visionary mind of co-founder Andy Kelly, this project transformed the traditional hospitality space into an intriguing, immersive sanctuary that defies ordinary expectations.
This year’s theme shifted away from their previous focus on rigidity and dismantling, instead embracing an intimate yet intense atmosphere. Inspired by the notion of enclosure, the space was swathed in a sculptural covering reminiscent of tendons and muscles. The outcome was a thought-provoking setting that suggested the comforting warmth of human presence while blurring the lines between the body and its surroundings.
As a dedicated admirer, I’m drawn to the captivating exploration of domesticity that Oigall Projects has crafted in this space. Here, physical perception and sensory engagement intertwine beautifully. The core emphasis is on movement and tactile interaction as powerful means of bonding. This vibrant installation breathes life through a carefully chosen array of works by talented artists and designers such as Adam Cornish, BMDO, Brud Studia, Cordon Salon, Eduardo Wolfe-Alegría, Huseyin Sami, James Lemon, and Lauren Dunn.
By creatively and sensory remodeling it, Oigall Projects enticed guests to enter a realm that seemed less like a conventional hospitality area and more akin to a vibrant, living entity.
