Odessa A’zion Claps Back at Critics Over Comment About Not Affording Expensive Wigs

Actress Odessa A’zion is responding to criticism she received after sharing that she can’t afford pricey wigs. A’zion, known for her roles in the TV comedy I Love LA and the film Marty Supreme, discussed the issue in a recent interview with Deadline.

At the Critics Choice Awards, A’zion playfully addressed the online speculation about her hair. She joked to Deadline, “People are debating whether it’s a wig or not, and I guess we’ll never really know!” She was, of course, kidding. The interview quickly became popular online, gaining millions of views on social media.

After receiving feedback online, A’zion explained her previous comments about wigs and finances. She said she wasn’t aware people had such strong feelings about wearing wigs. She also clarified that while she mentioned money, many people don’t realize that income can be unstable for much of a career. She hopes things will improve, and she was simply explaining that she’s trying to be careful with her money.

She clarified that the hairstyle she wore to the Los Angeles premiere of Marty Supreme was a wig, but her hair at the New York premiere was her own. She spent five hours styling it herself. “People assumed it was a wig, and I was like, ‘Come on, give me some credit! I actually worked on this for a long time!'” she explained.

A’zion also thought about her acting career, pointing out that despite recent successes, she hadn’t received many offers for significant roles. She explained, “Honestly, I haven’t been getting a ton of offers. I think it’s because there just aren’t a lot of substantial roles for women out there right now.”

The actor expressed her desire to keep taking on complex and emotionally intense roles, similar to her character Rachel Mizler in Marty Supreme. She described Rachel as a perfect role for her, highlighting the character’s intelligence and strategic nature, as well as the opportunity to portray strong emotional outbursts. She admitted she enjoys the challenge of portraying characters experiencing difficult and painful situations.

Honestly, as a movie fan, I’m always drawn to the more eccentric characters. I find it way more interesting to see someone really go for it in a smaller role than to watch a typical lead just moving the plot along. Give me a character who’s a little wild, even if they’re only on screen for a few minutes – that’s what really excites me about a film.

You know, I really had a blast watching Talluluah in I Love LA – she’s such a fun, wild character! And the good news is, I heard they’re planning to start filming Season 2 around late summer, which I’m super excited about.
