Oddity Director Damian McCarthy Reveals Who Was Behind Dani’s Death And Why? Ending Explained

Director Damian McCarthy disclosed that it was Ted, Darcy’s spouse, who was responsible for Dani’s tragic demise. Motivated by his desire to be with Yana without Dani getting in the way and harboring doubts about Dani moving on, Ted planned and carried out Dani’s murder.

An associate of Ted’s named Ivan is accused of committing the violent crime. It was initially assumed that Ted was the one responsible, following the common narrative in which the spouse turns out to be the killer.

McCarthy explained to The Direct, “With so many potential suspects, it appeared that way to me at first. But upon closer examination, Ted comes across as quite detached. There’s definitely something off about him. From a storytelling perspective, he seemed like the most likely culprit while I was penning the script.”

In spite of the disclosures, Ted skillfully evades legal consequences for the majority of the film. He deceives Darcy into falling through a hidden door, resulting in her fatal plunge. Later, he instructs Ivan to complete the task, and it is revealed that Ivan was responsible for an earlier character’s demise, which Darcy erroneously attributed to someone else.

What led to Ted’s demise at the end? 

Yet, Ted’s overconfidence proved his undoing. He disregarded a caution about a haunted bell housed in Darcy’s shop, with tales of its ability to bring ruin upon those who dared to ring it. Unheedful of the warning, Ted went on to give the bell a try, ultimately meeting his end as a consequence.

In an interview with The Direct, McCarthy revealed that Ted’s overbearing pride resulted in his demise. Had the movie been more extended, audiences would have witnessed Ted being destroyed by the bell’s curse piece by piece.

Regarding Darcy, her last action is to use her wooden mannequin to end Ivan’s life, despite Ted ultimately burning it down later. According to McCarthy, he feels that Darcy is no longer among us and chooses to prevent any potential continuations by eliminating the essential components of the tale.
