For the upcoming Tokyo E-Prix, the Nissan Formula E Team has revealed a unique limited edition design in partnership with Japanese artist Kentaro Yoshida. This exclusive livery, premiering at their home race this weekend, reimagines Nissan’s Sakura emblem in an 8-bit aesthetic reminiscent of old-school arcade games and the vibrant electric atmosphere of Tokyo streets.
Significantly, this launch comes after the release of the NISMO Electric Racer Tokyo, an arcade game designed by Yoshida, which made its debut this week. Thousands of fans, including Nissan Formula E drivers Oliver Rowland and Norman Nato, participated in a competition for high scores. Now, this digital experience has been transformed into a real-life event.
According to Yoshida’s conversation with TopMob, it’s fascinating to observe the response to the release of the “NISMO Tokyo Racer” game this week, with thousands of enthusiasts giving it a spin. What truly piqued my interest about collaborating with Nissan on this project was the chance to translate my designs into reality and make a visible difference on the racetrack.
He mentioned, “Tokyo serves as my hometown E-Prix, a race that holds a special place in my heart. It’s moving to see my work displayed on the car. The racing culture in Japan is exceptionally unique, and I feel honored that the team placed trust in me to revamp their cherished Sakura theme into an 8-bit design.
At the Tokyo E-Prix, taking place on May 17-18, Nissan will proudly showcase its special edition livery, a tribute to Japanese ingenuity and our cherished gaming culture.
