Nintendo has shared the first official look at the Legend of Zelda live-action movie.
Shigeru Miyamoto, the famous Japanese game designer, shared the first images of the actors playing Zelda and Link on the company’s X (formerly Twitter) account. Bo Bragason will play Zelda, and Benjamin Evan Ainsworth will play Link.
The pictures reveal the actors wearing their costumes in a beautiful, outdoor environment, confirming previous reports that the movie is being filmed in New Zealand.

Miyamoto tweeted:
Hi everyone, this is Miyamoto! We’ve officially started filming the live-action “Legend of Zelda” movie on location. Bo Bragason, who will be playing Zelda, and Benjamin Evan Ainsworth as Link, are both doing great. Filming is going well, and we’d appreciate your continued support and patience as we work. The movie is currently scheduled to be released on May 7, 2027. Thank you for waiting!

First Look Confirms Zelda and Link’s Designs
The newly released images match footage that was previously leaked from the set. The footage showed actors portraying Bragason and Ainsworth wearing fantasy costumes in a forest setting. Link is dressed in his classic green tunic, complete with a brown strap and boots, and Zelda is wearing a simple blue dress with a belt and pouch.
The newly released photos show the production team is aiming for a realistic and authentic visual style, closely mirroring the game’s environments. They seem to be prioritizing real costumes and natural settings instead of relying heavily on computer-generated imagery.

Film Continues Production in New Zealand
Filming has begun in New Zealand, as shown in recent behind-the-scenes videos shared online. The videos revealed horses, lush forests, and a large film crew working on location, suggesting a large-scale production.
Wes Ball, known for directing The Maze Runner and Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes, is directing the upcoming Zelda movie. Shigeru Miyamoto and Avi Arad are producing it. The film is now set to release in theaters on May 7, 2027, after being moved from a previously planned March release.
