Nicholas Brendon Dies at 54 as Buffy Cast Pays Tribute

Nicholas Brendon, best known for playing Xander Harris on Buffy the Vampire Slayer, has died at 54.

Brendon died peacefully in his sleep from natural causes, his family announced Friday in an Instagram post.

Brendon played a central role in Buffy the Vampire Slayer throughout its seven seasons (1997-2003). He was one of the original members of Buffy’s core group of friends, alongside Sarah Michelle Gellar and Alyson Hannigan. His character, Xander, was relatable because he didn’t have any supernatural powers, making him a popular fan favorite and a vital part of the show’s emotional center.

Family shares statement

Brendon’s family cherished his memory, remembering him for both his acting work and his newfound love of art.

The statement described him as a passionate, sensitive, and creative person, noting that his art truly showed who he was at heart. The family has requested privacy as they mourn his loss and remember his life.

It’s with a really heavy heart that I’m sharing the news of Nicholas Brendon’s passing. He died peacefully in his sleep from natural causes. Of course, a lot of us knew and loved him as an actor, for all the wonderful characters he played. But in recent years, he really discovered a passion for painting and art. He was so enthusiastic about it, and loved sharing his creations with everyone – his family, friends, and fans. He was a truly passionate, sensitive, and driven artist.
