A new animated series based on Stranger Things is in the works! Entertainment Weekly has shared a first look at Stranger Things: Tales From ’85, which will launch in 2026. The show will fill in the story between seasons 2 and 3, featuring beloved characters in a fresh, animated format.

One of the creators of the show, Ross Duffer, explained that animation allows for limitless possibilities, and Eric Robles and his team have fully embraced that freedom. Robles, who is also the showrunner and executive producer through Flying Bark Productions, promised the series will recreate the special atmosphere of Hawkins in a fresh and exciting way, hinting at a captivating adventure for viewers.
The story takes place in the winter of 1985 in the chilly town of Hawkins. The main characters will encounter new monsters and work to solve a strange, supernatural mystery that puts their home in danger. According to Robles, they’ll discover that things aren’t what they seem.
The show’s cast features Brooklyn Davey Norstedt as Eleven, Jolie Hoang-Rappaport as Max, Luca Diaz as Mike, Elisha “EJ” Williams as Lucas, Braxton Quinney as Dustin, Ben Plessala as Will, and Brett Gipson as Hopper. Odessa A’zion, Janeane Garofalo, and Lou Diamond Phillips will also be appearing in the series.
Ross Duffer explained that the show’s concept originated from early conversations about building on the world of Stranger Things. He said it was one of the first ideas they had when considering what else they could do with the story.
