New Image of Tom Holland as Telemachus in THE ODYSSEY

Christopher Nolan’s films are always major releases, but the anticipation is particularly high after his Oscar win for Oppenheimer. Now, he’s tackling his first mythological story with next summer’s The Odyssey, and the buzz is building. Empire Magazine recently shared some initial photos, giving us a first look at Tom Holland as Telemachus, the son of Odysseus (played by Matt Damon). We also get a glimpse of Anne Hathaway, who previously starred in Nolan’s The Dark Knight Rises and Interstellar, as Penelope, Odysseus’s wife, who waits for him to return home after a ten-year journey. You can see the photos below.

Okay, so I just saw the first news about Christopher Nolan tackling The Odyssey, and I’m already excited! Apparently, Anne Hathaway is going to play Penelope, Odysseus’s wife, which is fantastic casting. And Mia Goth is joining the cast as one of the palace maids, Melantho. I’m really intrigued to see how Nolan approaches this classic story – I need to know more!

Zendaya, Lupita Nyong’o, Robert Pattinson, Charlize Theron, Jon Bernthal, Elliot Page, Mia Goth, John Leguizamo, Samantha Morton, and Benny Safdie also star in The Odyssey. Many other famous actors appear in supporting roles. The film has a massive budget of $250 million—the largest of director Christopher Nolan’s career, though he’s one of the few filmmakers who can reliably attract that level of investment. Nolan filmed The Odyssey entirely in IMAX across a variety of global locations, including Morocco, Greece, Italy, Scotland, Iceland, Western Sahara, and Los Angeles.

Unlike some adaptations, Christopher Nolan’s upcoming film of The Odyssey won’t downplay the mythological elements. In fact, it will fully embrace the world of Greek gods and creatures from Homer’s story, including characters like Athena, Poseidon, and the witch Circe, who will be played by Charlize Theron. While it’s unclear exactly how Nolan will portray these figures, it’s safe to say it won’t resemble the visual style of films like Clash of the Titans. Audiences can expect The Odyssey in theaters on July 17, 2026, presented in immersive IMAX 70 mm film.
