New ‘G.I. JOE’ Movie in the Works – Max Landis and Danny McBride to Combine Scripts for Action-Packed Reboot

Okay, so this is pretty interesting news for a G.I. Joe fan like me. Paramount is taking a really unusual approach with the next movie. They’ve brought in two writers – Max Landis and Danny McBride – and instead of having them work together, they’re each writing their own separate script! Apparently, the idea is to eventually combine the best parts of both into one final movie, but right now they’re being developed completely separately. It’s a bit of a risky move, but honestly, I’m intrigued to see how it all comes together.

Max Landis, son of director John Landis, made a name for himself in Hollywood with the successful 2012 film Chronicle, starring Michael B. Jordan. He also wrote the Netflix movie Bright with Will Smith and is known for his fresh and creative approach to superhero stories, including a popular online mini-series about The Flash.

Floyd Landis’ career has faced significant controversy. In 2019, multiple women publicly accused him of s and emotional abuse, but no legal charges were brought. Three years ago, in a YouTube video, Landis acknowledged past errors in his relationships, describing himself as someone who was a “toxic partner” and stating he understood why some people dislike him.

Danny McBride is an actor and writer known for comedy series like Righteous Gemstones, Eastbound & Down, and Vice Principals. He’s also written for film, including the recent Halloween trilogy and the 2023 horror movie The Exorcist: Believer.

Lorenzo di Bonaventura, who produced the G.I. Joe movies, is in charge of this new film. It’s unusual, but not completely uncommon in Hollywood, for a movie to start with two different scripts. Other big franchises, like the recent Tarzan and Mummy reboots from Warner Bros. and Universal, and even Paramount’s Transformers and Star Trek films, have used this approach – having multiple writers develop separate ideas that are then combined.

This new hire demonstrates that Paramount and Skydance are open to collaborating with people who have faced controversy in Hollywood. Similar situations have occurred before, such as when John Lasseter joined Skydance Animation after leaving Pixar due to allegations of misconduct, and when Brett Ratner was set to direct Rush Hour 4 despite past accusations of s misconduct.

Although the new G.I. Joe film is still being developed, the involvement of Landis and McBride hints that it will blend exciting action with comedy.
