Netflix’s Chilling New Documentary Becomes a Worldwide Hit

The new Netflix documentary series, “Sean Combs: The Reckoning,” has quickly become popular around the globe since its debut on December 2nd. Directed by Alexandria Stapleton, the series investigates serious allegations of misconduct against rapper and music industry leader Sean “Diddy” Combs.

This documentary series features old video and photos of Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs alongside interviews with those close to him, like Kalenna Harper, Aubrey O’Day, Erick Sermon, Al B. Sure!, Mark Curry, Lil’ Cease, Greg Kading, Roger Bonds, Capricorn Clark, and Kirk Burrowes, as well as other people who knew him well.

Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson, the project’s executive producer, first revealed plans for it in December 2023, explaining that any money earned would go to those affected by the accusations against Sean Combs. Jackson spent several months finding people who were willing to talk about their experiences and knowledge of Combs. While Combs’ former partner, Cassie Ventura, chose not to be involved, Jackson did speak with both her and her husband, Alex Fine, to gain a clearer picture of what happened.

We need to find someone willing to collaborate with us, someone experienced in handling extremely difficult and unethical situations. “Sean Combs: The Reckoning” offers a detailed look at one of the most notorious trials of recent times.

Netflix announced the series in September 2024, soon after Sean Combs was arrested on charges such as racketeering and sex trafficking. The filmmakers, Jackson and Stapleton, have stated the series aims to be a sensitive and character-driven portrayal of the events.

They explained that this is a deeply affecting story with a long and complicated history, going far beyond what’s been reported. They are dedicated to sharing the experiences of those often unheard and providing a truthful, well-rounded account.

As a big fan, I was relieved to hear that the series includes some older footage of Sean Combs, even stuff from before his recent arrest. The producer, Stapleton, made it clear they got everything legally and have all the rights to use it, which is good to know.

The trailer for the series was released on December 1st, with the full series available on Netflix the following day. Within just six days, ‘Sean Combs: The Reckoning’ was watched 21.8 million times, making it the second most popular show on Netflix that week, only behind the first part of ‘Stranger Things’ Season 5.
