Netflix has given a green light for another installment of “The Hunting Wives,” guaranteeing that the thrilling Texas saga will continue to unravel with fresh turns and controversial incidents.
The show starring Brittany Snow and Malin Akerman turned out to be a major success on streaming platforms during the summer, and now, the team is all set to resume filming for its second season.
The showrunner and creator, Rebecca Cutter, expressed her joy about the renewal, stating, “I’m thrilled to delve back into these fascinating characters once more, and I can hardly contain my eagerness to guide our viewers on another sensual, convoluted, wild journey through Maple Brook.
The series is adapted from a popular book with the same title, authored by May Cobb. Initially, Lionsgate Television and 3 Arts Entertainment developed it for Starz; however, following Starz’s separation from Lionsgate this year, Netflix decided to take over its production instead.
As a devoted cinephile, I can’t help but revel in the success of the series that made its grand entrance on Netflix on July 21st. To my delight, it managed to hold its ground in the U.S. Top 10 for an impressive five weeks, eventually securing the title as the most-watched streaming series in the entire nation!
The success of the show significantly increased the demand for Cobb’s novel. In fact, Publisher Berkley reported a staggering 50-fold increase in sales across all formats compared to the previous year. Interestingly, the book had to be reprinted twice during the show’s premiere week as reported by Christine Ball, the executive vice president and publisher.
In the second season, we’ll pick up where we left off in the first, delving deeper into the narrative instead of focusing on additional works by Cobb. The official synopsis hints at a developing conflict between the characters portrayed by Snow and Akerman, Sophie and Margo respectively.
To begin with, Sophie and Margo have fallen out at the start of season two. However, hidden pasts and emerging threats compel them to reunite. While engaging in risky activities, it becomes unclear: are they the pursuers or the ones being chased?
Cutter shared with The Hollywood Reporter that the show was never just a one-season story in her mind while it was at Starz; instead, it was always an ongoing series. She mentioned that although it’s challenging to do more than three seasons, three is a good number. In fact, she could continue the show forever because it’s so enjoyable and the actresses are great fun to work with.
In the returning cast, you’ll find Jaime Ray Newman, Dermot Mulroney, Evan Jonigkeit, and George Ferrier, along with Snow and Akerman. The second season will debut worldwide as a Netflix Original show, available in the majority of their market regions.

Cutter discussed the cultural impact of the show as well. She clarified that when writing about a conservative Texas group and a Democrat newcomer in town, she didn’t aim to deliver a political message. Instead, she playfully added that it was created for the amusement of middle-aged women with romantic inclinations.
Snow and Akerman fueled excitement on the web by posting a video hinting at the upcoming second season, subtly referencing the major suspense left at the end of season one.
