Netflix Executive Speaks Out on Meghan Markle and Prince Harry Report and Questions Its Accuracy

As a big Netflix watcher, I was really interested to hear what Bela Bajaria, one of their top executives, had to say about Harry and Meghan. There’s been a lot of talk lately about a possible falling out between Netflix and the couple, especially with them doing other projects outside of the streaming service. But at a recent event on March 18th, Bajaria basically shut down those rumors, saying things are actually going well. It’s good to know they’re still on good terms, as I’ve enjoyed some of the content they’ve brought to the platform.

The Netflix executive disputed the idea that they were caught off guard by Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s 2021 interview with Oprah Winfrey or the release of Prince Harry’s memoir. She urged the audience to question what they’d been hearing, saying, “Don’t believe everything you read,” and suggesting everyone do some fact-checking.

The working relationship between the streamer and Archewell Productions is still strong and yielding results. According to a top executive, several new projects are in the works for viewers. She confirmed they are currently developing movies together, building on a successful creative partnership. She also pointed to a previous docuseries as a major success, noting it broke records for its debut and remains one of the platform’s most-watched documentaries. This series followed the couple as they stepped back from their roles as senior members of the royal family.

Netflix’s Bela Bajaria clarified that despite the constant media attention surrounding Prince Harry and Meghan, their contract is treated like any other major Hollywood deal. She explained that these agreements are regularly reviewed, and sometimes not renewed – a common practice in the entertainment industry.

She believes the strong public fascination with this collaboration frequently leads to exaggerated or fabricated stories. Both Netflix and representatives for Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have officially denied reports of any disagreement.

A representative for the couple confirmed that Netflix knew about all of their public appearances, including the interview with Oprah Winfrey. They explained that lawyers from both sides were regularly involved in managing changes to their multi-year agreement, which is standard practice in the entertainment industry.

Just before this news came out, Meghan announced that her lifestyle brand, As ever, was ending its partnership with Netflix. The brand will now operate independently to allow it to grow more quickly and focus on its specific goals. A spokesperson for As ever said the brand is now prepared to function on its own.

Netflix confirmed it supports the brand remaining independent, stating that was always the plan. A spokesperson said, “We’re excited to see how she continues to brighten people’s homes globally.”

Meghan is growing her work beyond just creating media; she’s now focusing on lifestyle and wellness. Through her brand, As ever, she plans to offer carefully chosen home goods and natural products for everyday living. She’s also started a new podcast in partnership with Lemonada Media.
