After the highly successful 2023 live-action Barbie movie, there’s been an unusual array of upcoming films on the horizon. The Margot Robbie-led project is spearheading a Mattel Cinematic Universe, with projects ranging from a live-action Matchbox film to a more mature take on Barney. Additionally, Hasbro is joining in with toy-inspired live-action films, such as My Little Pony, which Amazon MGM Studios and Hasbro will collaborate to bring to the big screen in a feature film, according to Variety.
Toys based on My Little Pony, first introduced in 1982, have remained popular across multiple generations. Over the years, we’ve witnessed several animated series and movies, but a live-action My Little Pony feature has yet to materialize. It’s well-known that the fanbase for these adorably named ponies with luxurious manes extends far beyond young girls. A significant portion of this fandom is known as “bronies,” who are teenagers and adult males who have formed a deep bond with these characters. Consequently, there’s a strong possibility that this film could appeal to a diverse audience.
Up until now, no updates or details have been revealed about the live-action My Little Pony movie, including whether beloved characters such as Twilight Sparkle will make an appearance. However, it’s worth noting that this project is now included among Hasbro’s list of intriguing upcoming productions, which includes a Clue TV series and film.
