As a seasoned festival-goer with over two decades of music events under my belt, I can confidently say that the 2025 Glastonbury lineup is shaping up to be a true spectacle. The rumors swirling about the return of iconic ’70s artists like Neil Young, Stevie Wonder, and none other than Sir Rod Stewart are music to my ears. It’s about time we had a proper Glastonbury experience again!
Before Christmas has even arrived, it seems premature to contemplate lineups at summer festivals in 2025. However, there’s a lot of buzz and speculation about who might be gracing the stages. For instance, for one major iconic festival, there are strong hints that some legendary ’70s artists could perform their classic hits live.
Next year, from Wednesday, June 25 to Sunday, June 29, you can expect Glastonbury Festival. The Eavis family, who run the event, are aiming to create a significant impact with their lineup, as last year’s might not have been as extraordinary as they desired, featuring Coldplay, Dua Lipa, and Sza in the main headline slots. While these artists are talented, it didn’t quite capture the full Glastonbury experience. Since the festival will be taking a break in 2026, there’s an opportunity to make a strong impact in 2025 before that hiatus begins.
As a music enthusiast, I’m eagerly looking forward to next year’s event, where we might blend the magic of the ’70s with today’s vibrant tunes. Two artists who could bring that fusion to life are none other than Neil Young and Stevie Wonder. There’s buzz in the air about their potential appearances on our main stage. Stevie Wonder, in particular, might grace us as one of the headliners. Although their music has transcended decades, the ’70s were truly a golden era for both artists.
Classic 1970s rockstar ready to take on legend role
Beyond just being a contender, Sir Rod Stewart is undeniably an iconic figure in music, particularly during the 1970s but also spanning multiple decades. He has been expressing his interest in securing the Legend slot for the upcoming summer. With his vast collection of hit songs and knack for turning any location into a party, Stewart would indeed be an ideal choice for such a role.
Apart from their musical talents, these artists are also highly sought after for their stage presence. Powerful female voices like Chappell Roan, Olivia Rodrigo, and Charli XCX are rumored to be booked for multiple performances across different venues. Additionally, The 1975, Simple Minds, Eminem, and potentially Ed Sheeran might also join the lineup.
Apart from The Deftones, who have a break in their early summer UK tour schedule at Glastonbury next year, there’s buzz about Muse potentially making an unexpected appearance during the same period. There have been whispers suggesting they might perform an impromptu set, similar to The ChurnUps/Foo Fighters incident of 2023. However, it seems questionable how surprising or unplanned such a performance would be if discussions about it are already taking place.
It’s still quite a distance before we can expect official lineups to show up. As for who might be there, Stewart seems like a sure thing, but the rest are uncertain – some more than others. There’s definitely going to be more names floating around. Could Taylor Swift be one of them?
