As a music enthusiast with decades of listening under my belt, I must say that December can sometimes feel like a barren wasteland when it comes to new album releases. But fear not, for even in this season of gift-giving and holiday cheer, there are still gems to be found!
As the holiday season approaches quickly, many of the albums you might want to purchase could have already been released. You won’t find a vast number of brand-new records in December, but there may still be a few hidden treasures left to discover.
Furthermore, if you’re a fan of live performances, there will be quite a few of those albums for you. You might even want to consider including them on your holiday wish list, although ideally, you would have completed that list earlier. What seems to be the delay?
A legendary hip-hop artist is set to release a new album soon, which is fantastic news! Additionally, with not many fresh tunes available at the moment, we’ve also included a few sneak peeks for January. Given your passion for music, there’s bound to be something in December’s offerings that catches your ear.
Full album release schedule for December
December 6
Angel Olsen – “Celestial Vibrations Volume 1
As you can see from the list above, there are going to be few “new” albums coming out in December. This is because people have already been buying Christmas gifts and albums released in December get pushed down on the list of priorities. Still, if you have a Dua Lipa fan on your shopping list (or perhaps Lucinda Williams), these albums might be must-haves for them.
December 13
Saint Etienne – The Night
Snoop Dogg and Dr. Dre – Missionary
The National – Rome
Here’s a mix of both albums: Some parts are excellent, while others might not be as impressive. To clarify, The National’s album isn’t actually a collection of brand-new songs; it’s a live extended play (EP). On the other hand, Snoop Dogg’s album is fresh and has been in production since 2022, with Dr. Dre handling its production.
Of course, the record is going to have lots of guest stars. These include Dre (of course!), Eminem, 50 Cent, Method Man, Jelly Roll, Tom Petty (seriously), and Sting (again, seriously). The album should be dynamite.
January 8
Ethel Cain – Perverts
Given that there aren’t many new albums dropping in December, we thought it would be fun to provide you with some extra releases, and one of them is Cain’s latest album which features the mind-blowing single “Punish.” This upcoming album promises to continue Cain’s signature Southern Gothic style, but with a generous helping of metal influences.
January 10
Franz Ferdinand – The Human Fear
It’s exciting news that Franz Ferdinand will soon unveil an album they’ve been working on since 2018, titled Always Ascending. This new creation was crafted in the beautiful landscapes of Scotland, and it seems the songs revolve around the thrill of being alive, inspired by things one dares to fear. Let’s look forward to it!
