Misha Kahn’s ‘Far Afield’ Debuts at Salone del Mobile 2025

At the 2025 edition of Salone del Mobile, Friedman Benda gallery will showcase Misha Kahn’s solo exhibition titled “Far Afield“. Renowned for his innovative use of materials and form, Kahn crafts an unusual, tactile environment that pushes the boundaries of traditional design.

The main feature of this exhibition is “Azimuth,” a vast array of vibrant mirrors modeled after ancient methods of measuring the heavens. Functioning as a cosmic mirror, it positions viewers at its center. As Kahn describes, it symbolizes our urge to gauge ourselves against the universe’s depths, with radiating rings of color showcasing an endless dance between viewpoint and understanding.

Notable works also feature are “Euphausiids Delight (Final Moments)”, an intricately interwoven centerpiece inspired by the collective motion of sea crustaceans, and “A Long Winter’s Sleep”, Kahn’s inaugural marble carving that emulates the gentle folding of fabric in a typically hard material. According to him, this method is more about investigating the entire environment these forms inhabit rather than focusing solely on their individual shapes.

The event additionally showcases a mohair carpet made by Stephens Tapestry Studio, as well as the sculptural couch named “Mole Eats Worm,” the chair titled “Double Shuck Pea,” a cast bronze chandelier, plus more sculpted furniture that highlights Kahn’s unique whimsy and skill with materials.

Far Afield will be on view at Capsule Plaza from April 8 to April 13.
