Warner Bros. has set a release date for the next *Minecraft* movie, and it’s coming out around the same time as James Gunn’s upcoming *Superman* film, which could create some competition.
The new *Minecraft* movie is scheduled to hit theaters on July 23, 2027, following the release of James Gunn’s *Superman* sequel, *Man of Tomorrow*, which comes out on July 9, 2027.
It’s also the same day that Disney recently announced for The Simpsons movie.

Minecraft Sequel in the Works
After the unexpected success of *A Minecraft Movie* this year, Warner Bros. and Legendary are already planning a sequel. Jared Hess will return as director and co-writer, working with Chris Galletta on the script. The first film earned an impressive $957.8 million globally, making it the year’s second-highest-grossing movie and Warner Bros.’ biggest hit that wasn’t based on a superhero story in years.
The first movie featured Jason Momoa, Jack Black, Sebastian Hansen, Emma Myers, Danielle Brooks, and Jennifer Coolidge. It had a huge opening weekend, earning $163 million in the US and $313 million worldwide – making it the biggest video game movie launch of all time, surpassing *The Super Mario Bros. Movie*. Jason Momoa will return as a producer for the next installment, but casting details haven’t been announced yet.
Warner Bros. Bets on Minecraft Over Superman?
The release of *Minecraft 2* comes at an interesting time.
