Michael Rubin says he refused to play Kendrick Lamar’s ‘Not Like Us’ at his party because of Drake

As a seasoned gamer and hip-hop enthusiast who has seen countless feuds and comebacks within the music industry, I find myself intrigued by the latest tussle between Drake and Kendrick Lamar. The accusations leveled against Drake in “Not Like Us” have certainly stirred up quite a storm, but it’s the response from those around him that truly piques my curiosity.

Over the Independence Day weekend, I found myself rubbing shoulders with A-listers at Michael Rubin‘s yearly bash in The Hamptons – an event not to be missed for any gaming enthusiast like me. Among the star-studded crowd was Drake, fresh from his intense rap rivalry with Kendrick Lamar.

It’s widely recognized that Lamar’s controversial diss track “Not Like Us” secured him the upper hand in the feud. The lyrics suggest Drake is a pedophile, though these allegations remain unproven. Despite its widespread popularity, playing it was off-limits at Rubin’s party. You can hear it on the radio, blasting from cars, and trending on social media, but not there.

During a recent chat on The Breakfast Club, the wealthy entrepreneur discussed his choice not to play a specific song. He emphasized that this decision was entirely his own. Interestingly, though, he mentioned that the song had been played at a pre-event gathering the previous night. As soon as he heard it, he requested someone to stop the music.

At the 13:35 point during the interview, Rubin stated, “What he said is accurate.” Drake has been my friend for a considerable period. Since I don’t intend to invite him and potentially add to his struggles, it seemed inappropriate to do so under the current circumstances. Given that Drake is dealing with some issues right now, I didn’t feel it was suitable for him to attend. Consequently, I sent a message explaining that we shouldn’t play any music from artists involved in feuds while they are present at the event.”

He’s obviously going through a little bit of a battle right now.

At present, it’s difficult to predict the exact impact “Not Like Us” and Lamar’s win over Drake might have on his career. However, if someone were to look at Lamar’s fanbase, they might think that Drake may struggle in the future due to their comments on social media. But in truth, Drake is likely to be fine since he retains a massive following, as highlighted by 50 Cent not long ago.

50 Cent said to The Hollywood Reporter, “I don’t foresee a decrease in sales for Drake. When his next song is released, the fans who purchased Drake’s music will continue to do so.”
