Meta and Oakley Unveil All-New AI-Powered ‘Oakley Meta HSTN’ Glasses

Summary

  • Meta and Oakley have announced a new partnership and the Oakley Meta HSTN is the first product to launch
  • The new AI-powered glasses are sports focused and a limited-edition debut pair can be pre-ordered from July 11

I’m thrilled to share that after creating some buzz around the enigmatic Instagram account – @oakleymeta – earlier this week, Meta and Oakley have finally unveiled their collaboration product – the Oakley Meta HSTN. This is the first offering from a long-term partnership aiming to pioneer a fresh segment of Performance AI eyewear!

Known as “HOW-stuhn”, the latest Oakley Meta glasses are a testament to the success of its Ray-Ban collaboration, blending stylish design with advanced technology. These glasses offer a high-resolution first-person view that can be operated hands-free for convenience. Equipped with a built-in 3K camera and a battery capable of running up to eight hours on a single charge, they also come with a charging case that provides an additional 48 hours of power for worry-free mobility. The glasses boast open-ear speakers discreetly integrated into the frames, enabling users to enjoy clear music while exercising. Moreover, they have an IPX4 rating, making them resistant to water and sweat.

The advanced AI technology is seamlessly integrated within the heart and fabric of the Oakley Meta HSTN, featuring Meta AI – dubbed by the tech titan as a “personal AI assistant”. This AI can help schedule workouts, respond to queries, and even be instructed to record video.

Oakley and Meta are launching six different versions of the Oakley Meta HSTN, and three of these incorporate Oakley’s “PRIZM” lens technology, a highly advanced innovation in lens design that aims to understand how our brain and eye interpret light. The first release will be the Limited Edition Oakley Meta HSTN, which boasts 24K PRIZM polarized lenses and gold accents to celebrate Oakley’s 50th anniversary this year.

It’s evident that Meta views intelligent glasses, or AI glasses, as the path forward. Last autumn, they unveiled their Orion glasses, and it comes as no surprise that they are now venturing into sports-oriented frames. Alex Himel, Meta’s VP of Wearables, stated that Meta and Oakley have been collaborating for years to comprehend the distinct requirements of athletes. He further mentioned that glasses have proven to be an optimal device for people to enjoy music and record videos.

Similarly to Ray-Ban, Oakley is part of Luxottica’s family, and according to Rocco Basilico, its Chief Officer for Wearables, the partnership with Meta signifies a groundbreaking new phase for the brand. This collaboration sets a fresh industry benchmark. Basilico further stated that Oakley Meta is a crucial component of a broader, cross-brand, multi-technology strategy aimed at creating a connected eyewear category encompassing various lifestyles, communities, and scenarios.

Starting July 11, you can pre-order the exclusive Oakley Meta HSTN glasses, priced at £499 GBP / $499 USD / €549 EUR each. The remainder of the eyewear collection, which is Rx-ready and detailed below, will be released later this summer, with prices beginning at £399 GBP / $399 USD / €439 EUR.
