Maurizio Cattelan Curates ‘The Endless Sunday’ at Centre Pompidou-Metz

In May 2025, the Centre Pompidou-Metz will mark its 15th anniversary by hosting a major exhibition titled “The Endless Sunday,” which has been curated by famed Italian artist Maurizio Cattelan. This unique event will see the museum utilizing every corner of its premises, including the Grande Nef and Galerie 1, as well as the rooftops and lesser-known areas. Over 400 pieces from the Centre Pompidou’s collection will be displayed to celebrate this milestone.

Cattelan presents these pieces in conversation with around thirty of his own, providing a melancholic contemplation on modern mythologies. One such work is “Comedian“, his well-known banana attached to the wall with tape – a piece that sparked worldwide discussion about the worth and absurdity of contemporary art. In this setting, it serves as both satire and emblem, amplifying the show’s introspective analysis of cultural traditions and signification systems.

The exhibit, structured like a 26-letter alphabet, showcases themes related to poetry, novels, and films. “Endless Sunday” will be on display until February 2, 2027.

The exhibition is organized in a manner similar to an alphabet, with 26 sections focusing on themes inspired by poems, books, and movies. The exhibit titled “Endless Sunday” will remain open until February 2, 2027.
