The X-Men are finally joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and we now have a confirmed release date!
Jeff Sneider, a journalist, reports that Marvel Studios is aiming to release its new X-Men movie on May 5, 2028.
Disney and Marvel haven’t officially announced the date yet, but according to Jeff Sneider on his podcast, *The Hot Mic*, an announcement is expected shortly.
This release timing is noteworthy, as it marks the 20th anniversary of the first *Iron Man* movie in May 2008 – the film that started the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
The timing works well with Marvel’s overall plan, as *Avengers: Secret Wars* is currently scheduled for December 2027 and will wrap up the current storyline. This new X-Men movie is expected to be a reboot, giving the franchise and the entire Marvel Universe a fresh beginning.
I’m really excited to hear Jake Schreier is directing! Apparently, Marvel was super impressed with what he’s done on *Thunderbolts* – people really liked the early looks, and it gave them the confidence to let him take the lead on this new project. It’s awesome to see him getting another chance to handle a big team-up movie!
Michael Lesslie is writing the script. He began discussions about the project in 2024 and officially joined in 2025. He’s previously worked on films like *The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes* and *Assassin’s Creed*.
I remember being totally excited back in 2019 when Kevin Feige, the head of Marvel Studios, first hinted at the possibility of mutants becoming part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. It was at San Diego Comic-Con, and it felt like a huge deal!
Feige explained that Marvel’s X-Men will be distinct from the previous films made by 20th Century Fox, offering a fresh take on the idea of mutants. He’s confirmed the reboot will star a completely new cast, focusing on a younger group of heroes and a new generation of characters rather than bringing back familiar faces.
As a huge Marvel fan, it’s been so exciting to see mutants popping up in things like the recent multiverse projects! And with *Secret Wars* supposedly going to be a big reset for the MCU, it sounds like this new X-Men movie is going to launch the next era of stories. I can’t wait to see where they take it!
If the latest reports are true, the new *X-Men* movie is scheduled to hit theaters on May 5, 2028. This would be a significant moment for Marvel Studios, as it would come after twenty years of making successful movies.
