The trailer begins with Von Kovak, a director known for independent films, taking on a big superhero franchise, played by Zlatko Burić, who starred in *Superman*. In a self-aware moment, he questions why another superhero story is needed, admitting everyone might be getting tired of them, but explains he felt a strong connection to this particular project. The trailer is packed with references to Marvel Comics. It appears Brent Willard, resembling David Hasselhoff, plays Wonder Man, sporting costumes directly from his 1980s *West Coast Avengers* comics and his 1990s black and red suit. Old clips show Wonder Man battling low-budget aliens at Vasquez Rocks, a California location famously used in *Star Trek* for Captain Kirk’s fight with the Gorn.
Marvel Studios appears to be blending different versions of the Wonder Man comic book character. The superhero side of Wonder Man, who gains powers from ionic energy, will likely be featured as a character *within* a story shown in the series. At the same time, the series will also explore Simon Williams’s life as a Hollywood actor, and Yahya Abdul-Mateen II will play that role. This is shaping up to be Marvel’s most self-aware and layered project yet, and the latest preview has only increased anticipation for its release.
