Disney’s recent financial reports clearly show that Deadpool & Wolverine is their most successful movie at the box office in recent years.
As a big Disney fan, I was a little worried seeing the Entertainment earnings drop this quarter, especially after Fantastic Four. But honestly, it makes sense when you look at the bigger picture. Last year was incredible with huge hits like Inside Out 2 and Deadpool & Wolverine – Disney themselves keep saying those movies were the reason things looked so good! This year just hasn’t had a movie quite on that blockbuster level yet, so it’s not really an apples-to-apples comparison.
Even though Deadpool & Wolverine has proven to be a huge financial success – surpassing all other recent Marvel films – Marvel Studios and Kevin Feige haven’t announced any plans based on that success. We haven’t heard about a sequel, a spin-off, or any future projects building on what is now clearly Marvel’s most consistently profitable franchise.

No Clear Direction From Marvel Studios
As a huge Marvel fan, I’m honestly a little confused by the silence. Kevin Feige hasn’t said anything about a direct sequel to Deadpool & Wolverine, which is strange considering how much excitement the movie brought to the MCU when things felt a bit shaky. So far, the only actor confirmed for Avengers: Doomsday is Channing Tatum – he’s finally getting to play Gambit after years of rumors! But beyond that, it’s really odd that we haven’t heard anything about where Deadpool and Wolverine fit into the next big phase of the MCU. It’s leaving me wondering what the plan is!
This is especially noticeable because the Marvel Cinematic Universe is currently changing, with fewer new releases planned and the next movie not expected in theaters until December 2026.

Ryan Reynolds Is Developing Follow-Ups on His Own
Marvel hasn’t officially said much, but Ryan Reynolds has been very active behind the scenes. He’s strongly advocated for several ideas, even trying to bring back Wesley Snipes as Blade. Reynolds has also been independently working on plans for a sequel to Deadpool & Wolverine, creating potential storylines and waiting for Marvel to approve them – a decision that hasn’t come yet.
It’s clear Ryan Reynolds and Wesley Snipes want to be involved, fans are eager, and Disney’s success shows there’s a strong audience for this project. However, Marvel Studios, led by Kevin Feige, hasn’t made any official announcements, especially considering their current need for projects with the same level of popularity as Deadpool & Wolverine.

Feige’s Silence Raises More Questions Than Answers
Disney has publicly acknowledged how well Deadpool & Wolverine performed, making Marvel Studios’ silence on the film’s success increasingly noticeable. While Disney recognizes the film’s significant financial impact, Marvel hasn’t yet capitalized on that positive momentum.
It’s unclear if Marvel is reorganizing internally, changing its overall plans for the Marvel Cinematic Universe, or holding off on announcements until they see how Avengers: Doomsday performs, but the contrast between the movie’s success and Marvel’s lack of communication is now more noteworthy than the film itself.
