Marvel Studios just gave fans their first glimpse of its upcoming series, *Wonder Man*, which will premiere on Disney+ on January 27, 2026, at 6 PM Pacific Time. Marvel made the announcement and released a trailer today.
I’m really excited about this new show! It follows Simon Williams, a guy who works as a stuntman and actor in Hollywood, but then unexpectedly gains superpowers. Yahya Abdul-Mateen II is playing him, and it’s awesome to finally see this classic Marvel character brought to life on screen – it’s his first ever live-action appearance!
Destin Daniel Cretton and Andrew Guest created the series. Cretton, who directed the film *Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings*, also directed multiple episodes, alongside Stella Meghie and James Ponsoldt. Andrew Guest is the showrunner, overseeing the series’ production.

The upcoming movie *Wonder Man* is one of Marvel’s Phase Six projects. It’s part of the “Marvel Spotlight” series, which means it will tell a self-contained, character-focused story. You won’t need to have watched every previous Marvel movie or show to enjoy it, making it a more accessible entry point into the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The goal is to deliver stories that are both independent and connected to the wider Marvel world.

The show features some well-known actors. Ben Kingsley reprises his role as Trevor Slattery, a character he previously played in *Iron Man 3* and *Shang-Chi*. Demetrius Grosse, Ed Harris, and Arian Moayed also appear in supporting roles.
Filming for the show began in Los Angeles in early 2023, but had to be temporarily stopped due to the Writers Guild of America strike. Production resumed in January 2024 and finished a few months later. By the end of the year, Marvel announced the show would consist of eight episodes.
I’m really excited about *Wonder Man*! From what I’ve seen, it looks like it’s going to be a Marvel story that’s a bit different – more funny, more emotional, and focused on the people behind the superheroics. I can’t wait to see it when it comes to Disney+ in January 2026!
