A recent industry report suggests Marvel Studios is facing challenges, with one analyst directly stating the studio is stuck in a pattern of uninspired content. The show She-Hulk is being specifically mentioned as an example of this issue.
These observations are based on a recent Variety article analyzing Disney’s plans for its major franchises, especially considering the recent shifts in company leadership.
Analyst Says Marvel Is “Definitely In A Rut”
TD Cowen analyst Doug Creutz was blunt in his assessment of Marvel’s recent results.
“Marvel is definitely in a rut,” Creutz said.
Marvel Studios is facing challenges, including disappointing movie ticket sales for films like Quantumania, The Marvels, Captain America 4, Thunderbolts, and a planned Fantastic Four movie. At the same time, fewer people are watching Marvel content on the Disney+ streaming service.
From WandaVision Hit To She-Hulk Struggles
Variety notes that WandaVision became a hit when it debuted, but not every series landed the same way.
The show She-Hulk didn’t resonate with viewers as well as other Marvel projects. It received poor reviews, sparked criticism online, and didn’t maintain the same level of excitement as previous MCU shows and movies.
Many people are saying the decline in superhero movie popularity is due to “superhero fatigue,” but that’s just an excuse. The real problem is simply that the recent movies haven’t been very good, and audiences stopped going to see them.
As a big Marvel fan, I think a lot of us weren’t falling out of love with the MCU itself after Endgame. It was more that shows like She-Hulk felt like they were relying too much on just swapping in new characters, pushing certain messages a bit too hard, and honestly, just not telling very compelling stories. It wasn’t the universe we were tired of, it was what Disney and Marvel were doing with it.
Reports suggest that Kevin Feige and Marvel are adjusting their plans for the next Avengers films. Disney is optimistic that these changes will be successful.
