Marty Supreme had a very successful opening weekend, bringing in $10.8 million domestically. This is a new record for the film studio A24.
Initial box office numbers show this is the studio’s biggest opening day ever. It’s also the third-highest Christmas Day opening for an R-rated film in history.
The film initially debuted in a few select theaters – just six in Los Angeles and New York City – on December 19th.
Marty Supreme earned $875,000 during its first weekend in theaters. This gave it an average of $145,933 per theater, making it the most successful opening weekend for any A24 film to date. Experts say it also achieved the highest per-theater average for a movie since La La Land in 2016.
Thanks to a lot of early interest, experts predict the movie will make between $12 million and $20 million during its opening weekend over the Christmas holiday, as it plays in theaters across the country.
MARTY SUPREME
CHRISTMAS— Timothée Chalamet (@RealChalamet) August 13, 2025
Marty Supreme is a funny and heartwarming sports movie created by Josh Safdie, who also directed it. He wrote the story with Ronald Bronstein, and it’s based on the real life and career of American table tennis star Marty Reisman.
Timothée Chalamet leads the cast of the film and also helped produce it. The supporting cast features Gwyneth Paltrow, Odessa A’zion, Kevin O’Leary, Tyler Okonma, Abel Ferrara, and Fran Drescher. Darius Khondji was the cinematographer, and Daniel Lopatin created the film’s original music.
The movie first showed at the New York Film Festival on October 6, 2025, and then had a wider release in the United States by A24 on December 25.
Since it came out, Marty Supreme has been highly praised by critics. Reviewers have consistently lauded the film’s direction, writing, music, and editing, especially Timothée Chalamet’s performance, which many see as a career-defining role for him.
As a film buff, I was really excited to see ‘Marty Supreme’ get so much recognition last year! It landed on both the National Board of Review and American Film Institute’s top ten lists for 2025, which is a huge deal. Plus, it scored three Golden Globe nominations – Best Motion Picture (Musical or Comedy), a Best Actor nod for Timothée Chalamet, and Best Screenplay for Josh Safdie and Ronald Bronstein. It’s definitely a film I’m glad I checked out!
