I was so excited to see the new trailer for Markiplier’s movie, Iron Lung! It’s a big deal because it’s his first time directing a full-length film, and it’s based on that really cool indie game from 2022. What’s even more impressive is that Mark not only directed and wrote it, but he’s in it too, and he funded the whole thing himself! Seriously, a total passion project.
Okay, so I just finished watching Iron Lung, and it’s…intense. The setup is pretty wild: some cataclysmic event called ‘The Quiet Rapture’ has wiped out all the stars and basically made the universe uninhabitable. That leaves us with this guy, played by Fischbach, who’s forced to pilot a tiny submarine – the ‘Iron Lung’ – through an ocean of blood on a lonely moon. It’s exactly as unsettling as it sounds. The whole film feels incredibly claustrophobic and tense; you’re right there with him as he explores these terrifying depths. It’s not a fun ride, but it’s definitely gripping.

In April 2023, Fischbach announced the new film with a short trailer, sharing that it was filmed in Austin, Texas. He stars in the movie alongside Caroline Rose Kaplan and Seán McLoughlin, who many know as Jacksepticeye. David Szymanski contributed to the script and also makes an appearance in the film. The music was composed by Andrew Hulshult, who created the score for his first feature film.
The director, Fischbach, stated that the movie used more fake blood than any other horror film, exceeding the 50,000 gallons used in Evil Dead. He even briefly needed medical attention when some got in his eyes. Despite these difficulties, filming wrapped up in April 2023, and editing began right away.
Fischbach explained that filming was slowed down by the SAG-AFTRA strike in July 2023, but by June 2024, he confirmed the movie was finished. He also mentioned he had to decline a part in Five Nights at Freddy’s to prioritize Iron Lung due to a busy schedule.
The first official trailer for the movie was released on Fischbach’s YouTube channel on October 14, 2023. Iron Lung will be in theaters in the United States on January 30, 2026.
As a critic, I’m really impressed with what Markiplier has done here. This isn’t just another online video – he’s taking a huge leap into full-blown filmmaking with a theatrical release! What’s even more remarkable is the level of creative control he’s exerted, handling practically every part of the production himself. And let me tell you, the new trailer? Seriously chilling. It gives you a fantastic first look at the incredibly atmospheric world he’s built.
