Margot Robbie Defends Jacob Elordi as Heathcliff in ‘Wuthering Heights’: “Trust Me, You’ll Be Happy”

Emerald Fennell is planning a fresh and dramatic take on the classic novel Wuthering Heights. Her new movie will be a gothic psychological thriller inspired by Emily Brontë’s original story from 1847.

Margot Robbie and Jacob Elordi lead the cast of the new movie, playing Catherine Earnshaw and Heathcliff respectively. The film also features Hong Chau, Shazad Latif, Alison Oliver, Martin Clunes, and Ewan Mitchell. It will be released in the UK on February 11, 2026, and in the US on February 13, 2026.

Margot Robbie recently discussed the casting for her latest role in an interview with Vogue, acknowledging fan concerns about her blonde hair compared to the character’s traditionally brunette appearance. She understands the reaction, saying people haven’t seen her portrayal yet and are judging based on limited information. Emerald Fennell, the writer, also revealed that her version of the character is older than in the original book, envisioned as being between her mid-20s and early 30s.

Robbie was very impressed with Jacob Elordi’s performance as Heathcliff. He said Elordi truly embodies the character and urged audiences to be patient, promising they’ll be rewarded. Robbie noted that Heathcliff has been played by many iconic actors—like Laurence Olivier, Richard Burton, Ralph Fiennes, and Tom Hardy—and believes Elordi is destined for similar acclaim. He confidently stated that Elordi is a once-in-a-generation talent, comparing him to Daniel Day-Lewis.

Jacob Elordi was thinking about taking a break from acting when Emerald Fennell offered him the main role in her film, and she did so without asking him to audition. His casting as Heathcliff, a character initially envisioned as racially ambiguous, sparked some debate. In September, Fennell explained her decision, stating that Elordi closely resembled the original illustration of Heathcliff from the book she first read.

Charlotte Mellington, Owen Cooper, and Vy Nguyen will portray the characters in their younger years. Hong Chau, Alison Oliver, and Shazad Latif joined the cast in November 2024, and Martin Clunes and Ewan Mitchell round out the main cast.

A new movie adaptation of Wuthering Heights is scheduled for release in theaters just before Valentine’s Day 2026, providing a passionate and dramatic romance for moviegoers over the holiday weekend.
