Man of Tomorrow: Villain Said To Be Confirmed as Brainiac

Sources say Brainiac will be the main villain in the upcoming Man of Tomorrow movie, which confirms what fans have been predicting about James Gunn’s new Superman film for some time.

The Wrap reports that Superman and Lex Luthor will join forces to fight a well-known DC villain, hinting at a larger and more elaborate story to come in a future movie.

This news follows a clue James Gunn dropped months earlier: a photo of a script cover with images of the brain. That post immediately led to speculation about the villain Brainiac, especially since it came after the events of Peacemaker Season 2 and seemed to fit with the plans for the new DC Universe.

What The Wrap Says About Man of Tomorrow

According to The Wrap, the next Superman movie will feature Brainiac as the primary villain, forcing Superman and Lex Luthor to team up despite their differences. This builds on the ending of the first film, which hinted at Lex Luthor playing a bigger role in the DC Universe. It also aligns with previous statements that the sequel would introduce a more powerful and dangerous enemy than the one featured in the initial movie.

Production is scheduled to start in Atlanta this spring, and the film is expected to come out in 2027. Nicholas Hoult will reprise his role as Lex Luthor, joining David Corenswet as Superman, as they team up for the first time to face a common enemy.

Previous Tease Pointed Toward Brainiac

Last September, we pointed out clues in James Gunn’s script suggesting the introduction of the villain Brainiac. Artwork focusing on the brain led fans to believe he was finally appearing in a movie, something previous directors had tried to do for years. Gunn’s take seems to be based on the traditional version of the character, portraying Brainiac as a massive threat that will likely force Superman and Lex Luthor to work together.

James Gunn included Brainiac in early plans for his Superman movie, but those scenes weren’t used and are now likely being saved for a future sequel.

What This Means for The Centre Theory

We’ve also discussed theories suggesting The Centre might be the main villain, pointing to hints in the story and its links to other DC Universe projects. This idea connects directly to themes explored in Season 2 of Peacemaker and the potential for huge, universe-spanning threats throughout the upcoming DCU.

Now that The Wrap has confirmed Brainiac as the villain, the idea that ‘Man of Tomorrow’ will play a role in that story seems less likely. However, The Centre isn’t completely ruled out for the DC Universe. It could still be part of future storylines, but currently, Brainiac is expected to be the main villain in the sequel.
