LSU’s Flau’jae Johnson drops video to ‘Came Out A Beast’ with Lil Wayne & Kim Mulkey

As a diehard fan of hip-hop and LSU Tigers basketball, I must say, Flau’jae Johnson‘s “Came Out A Beast” video is nothing short of phenomenal! The seamless blend of her hip-hop life with her basketball passion is simply genius, and it resonates deeply with me as someone who appreciates both worlds.

On Tuesday, August 27, Flau’jae Johnson unveiled the video for her song “Came Out A Beast,” which also features Lil Wayne. In this video, some of her LSU teammates and their coach, Kim Mulkey, make an appearance.

The process begins when Mulkey takes over as coach, although it’s important to note that the scenes were intentionally staged for the video production, rather than director Terrius Mykel using real LSU game recordings.

Afterward, Johnson spits out fast, rhythmic lyrics amidst jumping vehicles, then continues his performance on the sideline with the basketball team. Mykel skillfully merges Johnson’s hip-hop lifestyle with basketball, captivating fans of both hip-hop music and LSU Tigers.

At the close of the video, you can see Johnson and her fellow players rejoicing over a victory in their locker room, popping champagne. It is worth noting that this triumph occurred during the 2023 NCAA Division I women’s basketball championship.

In a statement released by Complex, the accomplished shooting-guard expressed her delight about teaming up with Lil Wayne for a music video, describing it as a long-cherished dream. She stated, “He’s an icon in the industry, and having the opportunity to work together on this track was almost unbelievable.” She further added that the atmosphere on set was electrifying, and both of them infused that spark into the video.

Johnson additionally shared her feelings about including her LSU teammates in the ‘Came Out A Beast’ video. “Having my teammates alongside me in the video was a special experience,” she expressed. “We support each other both on and off the court, so it felt right to include them in this aspect of my life. It’s refreshing to exhibit our bond in an alternate manner, beyond basketball. I’m truly grateful they were there to share this meaningful moment with me.”

Regarding Mulkey’s presence in the video, Johnson noted that it underscores the extent of her support for her players, be it related to basketball or any other matter.

Johnson shared that she’s consistently been by his side, encouraging him to excel whether on or off the court. He emphasized that her support is crucial to him, and having her present during this significant moment was fantastic. It underscores her faith not only in us as athletes but also as individuals pursuing our personal aspirations.

As a devoted fan, I’m thrilled to share that “Came Out A Beast” can be found on Johnson’s “Best of Both Worlds” album, a remarkable 9-track collection that dropped in the sweltering heat of July.
