Louis Tomlinson Claims Things We Normal Night Before Zayn Malik’s One Direction Exit, Reveals What He Wanted Instead

One Direction, the popular boy band featuring Niall Horan, Liam Payne, Harry Styles, Louis Tomlinson, and Zayn Malik, rose to fame after forming on the X Factor in 2010. Five years later, Zayn Malik unexpectedly left the group, shocking both his bandmates and fans. Recently, Louis Tomlinson discussed on the Diary of a CEO podcast how hurt he felt learning about Zayn’s decision only after it had already happened, and shared details about the night before Zayn left and where they stand now.

Louis Tomlinson remembered the day before Zayn Malik left the band, March 24, 2015. He said everything seemed normal, but he wasn’t prepared for what happened. He felt Zayn should have talked to him directly, believing that was the kind of relationship they had. Louis understood why Zayn didn’t, though – he knew Louis would have tried to convince him to stay.

He explained that everything seemed fine the night before they found out. They were in their hotel room, and then he left around 11 PM after getting a call – he seemed upset. The next morning, they were scheduled to film something for a sponsor, but he didn’t show up.

At first, the guys didn’t think much of Zayn’s behavior. He simply wouldn’t do anything he didn’t want to, no matter what it was. They believe this independent streak is why he left the band, and they respect him for it. Louis Tomlinson, however, is different and more willing to compromise; he probably would have pushed through even if he wasn’t happy, for the sake of the group.

Everyone keeps wondering if Zayn regrets leaving, and Louis believes he probably does. Louis hopes they can eventually talk openly about what happened, their friendship, and how things could have been different.

It really hit me hard and I was completely heartbroken. I worried it meant the band was falling apart, and on top of that, I’d lost a close friend and fellow bandmate.
