2021 sees the commemoration of a century-long milestone by Longines, who celebrate it by unveiling a unique limited edition Spirit Zulu Time watch, marking the debut of the world’s first dual time zone wristwatch a hundred years ago.
As a devoted gamer, I’m all about immersing myself in different worlds, and the Longines Zulu Time GMT watch is like my time-travel device. Originally designed for the Royal Canadian Navy to manage the gap between their local time and the universal “Zulu Time,” it has roots deeply ingrained in a rich travel legacy.
Its origins can be traced back to Turkish pocket watches that facilitated the shift from Turkish time to Western time. Now, this lineage continues in a series of modern masterpieces, like the sought-after Spirit Zulu Time collection.
The Longines Spirit Zulu Time 1925 model showcases the advanced materials and refined finishes that Longines has developed throughout its history. On this special 39mm edition for the anniversary, a matte black dial is combined with a rotating bezel moving in both directions, marked with 24-hour divisions. For the first time in this series, this bezel is encased in an 18-karat rose gold rim and features hands, indexes, and a rotor (visible through the transparent back) all tinted with a warm rose gold tone.
Beyond imparting an opulent aesthetic, the watch boasts a rose gold alloy, enriched with copper tones, as a nod to the copper line at the Royal Observatory in Greenwich. To mark the centennial event, this model features detailed carvings of “1925-2025” on its face and a celestial map motif incorporating the prime meridian on the rotor. For watch enthusiasts, the mechanical heart of these timepieces is the Longines calibre L844.4, offering exceptional resistance to magnetic fields and powering the watches for an impressive 72 hours.
This year, Longines is set to introduce two new styles, measuring 39mm and 42mm, to their Spirit Zulu Time collection. These additions will be crafted with a stainless steel exterior and will showcase a black dial, complemented by rose gold accents. The ceramic bezel is divided into two shades of black, symbolizing day and night, adding an elegant and timeless touch that aligns with the brand’s distinctive design style.
After announcing Henry Cavill as its new worldwide brand ambassador, the company is featuring him in the marketing campaign for its newest release, which emphasizes global unity. In these advertisements, Cavill symbolizes the emotional bond between two travelers, with the Longines Spirit Zulu Time 1925 watch acting as a bridge connecting their distant locations.
Regarding the latest model, Cavill expresses, “In modern life, our dear ones and colleagues may be miles apart. Yet, the Spirit Zulu Time offers an instant connection with them, all while maintaining the refined elegance that Longines is renowned for.
Let’s have a good examination of the Spirit Zulu Time 1925 featured in the ad up there. For more details about this watch, visit Longines’ official site immediately.
