Leaked Video from ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ Set Hints at Surprise Character

Fans recently spotted Michael Mando filming scenes for the upcoming Spider-Man: Brand New Day movie in Basingstoke, England. Leaked photos from the set revealed his first look as the villain, Scorpion.

A recent video leaked from the film set reveals Tom Holland’s Spider-Man speaking with a female detective. Sources believe this character might be Yuri Watanabe.

Just saw a new Spider-Man video and I’m really curious about the female detective Spidey keeps talking to! Everyone’s speculating it might be Yuri Watanabe, and honestly, it makes a lot of sense! (I saw this shared by @batuhansafakk).

Yuri Watanabe first appeared in the comics as a police captain with the NYPD, taking over after the death of Jean DeWolff.

Sometimes, she works with Spider-Man to stop criminals. However, as she becomes increasingly dissatisfied with how the legal system handles justice, she begins operating as a masked crime fighter called Wraith. Wearing a costume similar to Spider-Man’s and often using equipment taken from villains, Wraith fights crime with a much more forceful style.

Though Spider-Man sometimes questions her tactics, he and Watanabe have teamed up on several occasions. She’s also been featured in other Spider-Man projects, like the Marvel’s Spider-Man video games, where Tara Platt provides her voice.

Filming for Brand New Day happened in multiple places. They shot scenes at Brookwood Cemetery in Surrey on August 7th, and then continued filming in Glasgow for a commercial until August 18th.

Filming took place at Pinewood Studios in Buckinghamshire throughout September. During that time, Mark Ruffalo said he hadn’t received a script or confirmation about his part yet, and was still hoping to find out more.

I was so worried when I heard Tom Holland got a mild concussion doing a stunt at Pinewood! Thankfully, it wasn’t too serious, but production had to pause for about ten days until September 29th. The good news is, it didn’t push back the movie’s release date. Around then, they announced Marvin Jones III would be playing Lonnie Lincoln, aka Tombstone – I loved his voice work as the character in ‘Into the Spider-Verse’! Filming picked up again in Basingstoke in early October, and I was thrilled to hear Tom and Zendaya were on set, working alongside the stunt team.

The new Spider-Man movie, “Brand New Day,” will now come out in the US on July 31, 2026. The release date was moved up a week to give it more space in IMAX theaters, avoiding a clash with the release of “The Odyssey.” This film is part of the sixth phase of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Recent leaks suggest Watanabe will appear in the story, and fans are now wondering how her character will be involved. Her superhero identity, Wraith, could create a thrilling partnership with Holland’s Spider-Man.
