Filming for a live-action version of The Legend of Zelda, produced by Sony Pictures, has started in Wellington, New Zealand.
Filming began in November and will likely wrap up around April 2026, lasting about six months. While early set photos haven’t revealed much about the filming locations, fans have gotten a sneak peek at the main characters’ costumes.
Benjamin Evan Ainsworth will be playing Link, and Bo Bragason will play Princess Zelda. The outfits seem to be inspired by the video game Breath of the Wild.

Before Bo Bragason was chosen for the role, Patricia Summersett, who voiced Zelda in Breath of the Wild, said she’d like to play Zelda in the live-action movie. Hunter Schafer also publicly stated she wanted the part after fans suggested her for the role online. Sony then officially announced Bragason and Ainsworth as the film’s stars in July 2025.
The movie will come out globally on May 7, 2027. While it was initially planned for March 26, 2027, the release date was changed. Filming is still underway in New Zealand, where the crew is constructing sets and capturing important moments for the film.
