Le Labo’s Beijing Heyuan Fragrance Laboratory Reimagines a Historic Mansion

Following the establishment of a Japanese outpost within a 145-year-old Kyoto home, Le Labo further grows its influence in the Asia Pacific by opening a new Beijing Fragrance Laboratory. This marks the brand’s second location in Beijing as it has now settled inside the historic Beizi Mansion, a traditional Siheyuan courtyard dwelling.

Deborah Royer, Global President and Creative Director of the brand, expressed that the unveiling of the Beijing Heyuan Fragrance Lab symbolizes our profound admiration for this remarkable city. This thoughtfully designed layout showcases our dedication to preserving Beijing’s rich cultural heritage and embodying the time-honored architectural style of Beizi Mansion. Here, we aspire that fragrances serve as a means to bridge spirits, encouraging people to reconnect with themselves through their senses, offering moments of peace and discovery.

The ancient Shiheyuan architectural design is thought to have started many centuries ago, featuring a central open space surrounded by buildings on each side. Labo blends this traditional architectural layout into its retail experience, leading guests through distinct rooms tailored to different product categories.

In the initial space, known as Qi Shi room, design elements are modeled after ancient Chinese apothecaries, where the brand’s primary line of personal fragrances is displayed. Moving on, the Habitat room occupies the western part of the building, offering a cozy lounge setting adorned with traditional furniture to showcase Le Labo’s home scents and fragrances. Lastly, the Jian Di room resides in the east wing, boasting dressing room-style furnishings and a stone sink for testing body care products. The journey concludes in the courtyard, which features traditional gardens and outdoor seating areas.
