Four years have passed since Marvel Studios debuted “The Eternals”. Although some audience members enjoyed the narrative, it appears that a larger number found the movie unappealing. Regrettably, both critics and box office numbers did not respond favorably to it. It’s unfortunate because there are several intriguing characters who could have shone in future MCU projects. It seems that Kumail Nanjiani, who portrayed Kingo, may have expected a long-term role in the Marvel Cinematic Universe as he signed on for six films over ten additional years.
During a discussion on the “Working It Out” podcast, he revealed an unexpected detail: Upon the release of “[Eternals]”, he received poor reviews and disappointing box office results. This left him feeling shattered, prompting him to seek therapy for self-reflection.
Nanjiani went on to say, “I thought, ‘This will be my career for the next decade.’ I agreed to six films, a video game, and even a theme park attraction. They make you commit to all sorts of things. It’s like, ‘These are the next ten years of my life. I guess I’ll be doing Marvel films each year, and in between, I can do my own projects as I please.’
Well, it appears that a sequel for that particular film may not be in the works, and it seems unlikely we’ll see any of the original characters reappearing. However, Kumail Nanjiani, who played Kingo, has expressed his readiness to reprise the role, even if it’s just a surprise appearance in the post-credits scene. At this moment, it almost feels as though that movie existed outside the Marvel Cinematic Universe continuity.
