In recent times, the KPop Demon Hunters animated movie, available on Netflix, has been highly popular and continues to captivate viewers even in its third week, experiencing only a minimal drop of 6.2% in viewership.
In simple terms, it’s not common for attendance at an animated movie to vary so little between its first and third weeks.
According to What’s on Netflix, the movie currently stands at 56.1 million views.
Many believe that the movie’s ability to be watched multiple times, due to its engaging nature, drew fans back to the theater to watch the animated flick, which in turn increased the number of viewers.
What is KPop Demon Hunters about?
In KPop Demon Hunters, a band of young women strive for success in the music world simultaneously with their roles as demon hunters, concealing their true identities.
As an ardent admirer, I can’t help but feel like these extraordinary women – Rumi, Mira, and Zoey – are battling demons in my heart and mind. Their enchanting voices have echoed far beyond our reality, reaching millions of souls. The melodies they weave have taken the top spots on charts everywhere, serving as the soundtrack to our lives.
In an open discussion about the movie’s triumph, Maggie Kang, one of the directors, disclosed that she had been presenting this project idea to Variety over the last seven years.
Kang explained, “It’s been nearly seven years since I initially presented this idea, almost to the day.” She continued, “Working on it has felt like digging a deep hole. You wouldn’t believe how repetitive it can be after a few years – the same jokes, the same moments revisited over and over again.
Speaking about the main characters in the movie, Arden Cho, Liza Koshy, and May Hong lent their voices to the principal parts. Furthermore, Ahn Hyo-seop, Ken Jeong, and Daniel Dae Kim were also part of the successful animated film’s ensemble cast.
After the movie’s premiere, KPop Demon Hunters received a high rating of 97% on Rotten Tomatoes.
