Kirsten Dunst Teases Interest in Spider-Man 4 With Tobey Maguire — But This Time, With a Different Twist

Kirsten Dunst has shared that she would be willing to reprise her role as Mary Jane Watson if a Spider-Man 4 film featuring Tobey Maguire is ever made, but she envisions it happening with a fresh approach.

While on the The Supes Show recently, Dunst was questioned about potentially returning to play her character from Sam Raimi’s original Spider-Man films.

The actress immediately expressed her enthusiasm for returning to the role, particularly if the film delved into the lives of Peter Parker and MJ as parents. “That would be amazing, wouldn’t it? I’m not sure how the fans would feel about it, but I think it could be a really compelling story. The idea of Tobey and me reprising our roles, but this time with children…” she explained.

Kirsten Dunst acted with Tobey Maguire in three Spider-Man movies directed by Sam Raimi from 2002 to 2007. A fourth Spider-Man film was planned with the same team – Raimi, Maguire, and Dunst were all set to reprise their roles – but the project was ultimately canceled before it could be made.

The studio later rebooted the franchise with The Amazing Spider-Man in 2012.

Talk of bringing back Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man world has picked up steam following Tobey Maguire’s unexpected appearance in Spider-Man: No Way Home. The film didn’t fully conclude his Peter Parker’s story, leaving fans curious about what happened to him and MJ afterward.

The excitement continues to build as writer Mattson Tomlin, a co-writer of The Batman alongside Matt Reeves, recently revealed his desire to write a script for Spider-Man 4. Tomlin mentioned he’s been attempting to contact Sam Raimi to discuss his concept, stating, “To be honest, I’m most interested in writing a Spider-Man 4 that explores Tobey Maguire’s Spider-Man balancing life as a husband and a father. The idea of Spider-Man as a father, especially after the last eight films, really appeals to me.”

Currently, Sony and Marvel are working on the next Spider-Man: Brand New Day film starring Tom Holland. However, many fans who enjoyed Sam Raimi’s earlier Spider-Man trilogy are still hoping to see what happens next with Tobey Maguire’s version of the character.

Now that Dunst has shown she’s open to the idea and exciting new talents like Tomlin are keen to participate, a Spider-Man 4 that blends familiar feelings with a modern approach seems genuinely possible – more so than it has in a long time.
