Things aren’t going as planned for Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 at tonight’s The Game Awards, and the developers at Warhorse Studios have spoken out about it online. Honestly, the game hasn’t been a favorite to win for a while now. While Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 sets a high standard for role-playing games, Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 has been winning most of the awards so far, making it clear which game is generating the most excitement.
The official Kingdom Come: Deliverance account on X (formerly Twitter) posted a picture of a dog sitting calmly amidst flames, referencing the popular “This is fine” meme. This seems to reflect how the developers at Warhorse Studios are feeling after Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 didn’t win any awards tonight.
Although the post doesn’t mention The Game Awards directly, it’s pretty obvious that it’s related.
Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 Is A Deserving RPG
Most years, Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 would likely have been a strong contender for awards at The Game Awards. However, it faces tough competition from Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, as both games are often nominated for the same awards. (This year was an exception, with Baldur’s Gate 3 being a dominant force in 2023.)
Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 offers deeper RPG mechanics and a realistic, immersive world reminiscent of classic Bethesda titles. Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, however, leans into the style of Japanese RPGs. While both games appeal to different tastes, Clair Obscur ultimately proved more popular with players.
