DC Comics revealed a new four-part comic series called Bizarro: Year None, launching this April. It’s created by Kevin Smith, Eric Carrasco, and artist Nick Pitarra.
This comic reveals the strange and unsettling backstory of an evil version of Superman – and it’s intentionally awful, but brilliantly so.
Kevin Smith, known for wanting to create a live-action Bizarro TV show for HBO Max starring Nicolas Cage, is now introducing the character in a comic book. He’s collaborating with Eric Carrasco, who previously worked on the Supergirl TV series, to bring the story to life.
This story offers the ultimate, yet strangely elusive, explanation for the beginnings of one of Superman’s strangest enemies.
In a recent announcement from DC, Bizarro declared, “I’m really not thrilled about the new comic! ‘Bizarro: Year None’ is going to be terrible!”

Jimmy Olsen and Perry White Blast Into Bizarro’s World
This comic book story centers on Jimmy Olsen and Perry White, familiar faces from the Daily Planet, as they embark on a bizarre space journey. They end up in a dimension that looks a lot like Metropolis, but with a strange twist: the newspaper isn’t just read there—it’s actually worshipped as a religion.
While exploring the strange secrets of this twisted world, the investigators come across its unusual protector—a figure who seems to be either a devoted, but confused, fan of Superman, or something much more unpredictable and dangerous.
Smith and Carrasco’s comic aims to be funny, touching, and full of imaginative science fiction. The artwork by Nick Pitarra is incredibly detailed and creates a strange, sometimes unsettling feel, which perfectly suits a character who constantly contradicts themself.

A Longtime Dream for Smith
I’ve been following Jeff Smith’s work for ages, and I remember hearing about his plans for Bizarro with Nicolas Cage potentially playing the part – it was so exciting! Sadly, that project never panned out. But I’m thrilled that Year None finally lets us see Smith’s unique vision for Bizarro in comic form. It’s been a long wait, and it’s totally worth it!
Fans can follow DC’s official channels and DC Universe Infinite for more updates on the series.
