Katy Perry is receiving backlash after a video showed her tossing a birthday cake while backstage on her current tour. The incident happened as she was celebrating her 40th birthday.
In the video, Perry, who was still dressed in her costume, blew out the candles on a large cake. Instead of sharing it, she threw the cake at a staff member, but it didn’t quite hit and landed on the floor.
I saw this incredible video online – someone posted it to X claiming their mom actually baked that cake! They wrote that she was so thrilled to get the chance to make something for Katy Perry and put a ton of effort into it. They were understandably confused and really upset about what happened, and honestly, I can see why!

Viewers were upset with the singer’s actions regarding a cake. One person commented that it was disrespectful for her to allow her team to pick up and eat pieces of the cake she had thrown on the floor, rather than simply serving it to them. They also hoped she had another cake available.
Many people expressed similar disappointment. One person wrote, “It really bothered me, and I wasn’t even involved!” Others called it embarrassing and were upset by the waste of food, especially seeing the crew eating off the floor, which they found disgusting.
Others came to Perry’s defense, pointing out that she probably paid for the cake and should be able to do with it as she pleased. One user on X stated, “She likely paid handsomely for the cake, meaning she’s allowed to do whatever she wants with it.”
Someone else chimed in, and honestly, it made a lot of sense. They figured Katy Perry probably wasn’t about to risk eating a cake from a fan, and wouldn’t let her team either. It got me thinking – if I were famous, I wouldn’t touch anything a fan sent me, either! You just never know.
In the video, Perry seems unaffected by the criticism, and is seen laughing while her backup dancers clean up the broken cake.
