Katee Robert sets the stakes even higher with Sweet Obsession

Prior to reading “Sweet Obsession“, I was apprehensive because my experiences with m/m romances haven’t been particularly fortunate. However, there have been a few that I’ve liked, although the count isn’t high. With Katee Robert as the author, I needn’t have fretted.

Robert has created an incredibly vast and undeniably seductive world in the “Dark Olympus” series, and he consistently maintains this level of quality. In fact, “Sweet Obsession” further establishes the series and its broader narrative.

In the eighth installment of the series titled “Sweet Obsession“, a broader narrative is at play, one that has been intricately crafted since the first book, “Neon Gods“. To maintain spoiler-free discussions, I won’t delve into specifics, but the way this tale unfolds leaves me eager for book 9 and the future of Olympus and its inhabitants.

Speaking of which, I’d like to express my gratitude to Sourcebooks Casablanca for providing me with an ARC and a completed copy. After all, I’m quite fond of Katee Robert’s works.

Sweet Obsession takes the Dark Olympus series to new heights.

Towards the conclusion of “Dark Restriant“, Katee Robert offered a sneak peek into what lay ahead. It became apparent that the ensuing romance would unfold between Poseidon and Icarus, a pairing not previously delved into by this author within this series. Regardless, Katee Robert’s enthusiasm for this romantic tale and these characters was so palpable that I found myself engrossed enough to read it over the course of two sessions.

In a nutshell, it was Poseidon who ensnared Icarus, and at first glance, it appeared as if Icarus was merely ticking off the days until his inevitable demise. Yet, to my surprise, Poseidon turned out to be nothing like I had envisioned, challenging even my preconceived notions. In a matter of moments, it became apparent that this unlikely pair shared an unusual compatibility, far beyond what either of us could have imagined.

Among the many aspects that captivated me in this book, the most striking was how author KR skillfully portrayed kink and its influence on the characters’ relationship. Although kink has been present in some of her other works, it seemed particularly significant in this series. The intricate dance between Poseidon and Icarus, both within and beyond the bedroom, was fascinating to observe. It almost felt like watching a movie of their relationship unfold, which speaks volumes about Robert’s exceptional storytelling abilities.

Beyond their romantic connection, Icarus and Poseidon experienced significant personal growth throughout the story. Their pasts were fraught with pain, yet they managed to overcome their struggles and find solace in each other. It was a moving sight indeed, witnessing them both evolve as individuals and as a couple. The only aspect that could have been improved was the tempo towards the book’s conclusion. I felt there might have been more exploration following the major events in the main plotline, but perhaps it will become clearer when Tender Cruelty is published.

Without a doubt, I’m head over heels for Katee Robert and her series. I’m absolutely thrilled about the future direction and upcoming events in the series. No matter what happens next, I’m an ardent supporter of this author, knowing full well that whatever lies ahead will be nothing short of remarkable.
