Kali Uchis Opens Up About Motherhood on “ILYSMIH”

Kali Uchis has just dropped the second tune from her upcoming album, Sincerely,, which is due out in May. After unveiling “Sunshine and Rain…,” “ILYSMIH” is another laid-back track that echoes the soulful vibes from her early releases, such as “Por Vida” (2015).

In contrast to her previous songs like “Por Vida’s ‘Loner,’ which convey melancholic lyrics such as “I’d rather be a loner, I’d much rather be alone,” the song emphasizes a different theme. The hook “I love you so much, it hurts” deviates from this pattern to express the intense emotions of motherhood. In verse two, she sings about no longer feeling lonely as her heart’s dream to be part of a family has finally come true: “For once in my life, I’m not alone anymore… Yeah, it took some time, but this moment was worth all the pain.” This is a stark contrast to the “Loner” hook.

Last week, the Colombian-American singer previewed her new single on TikTok by posting clips featuring herself and her baby, mentioning she penned the tune while her child was napping after birth. In a subsequent announcement, Uchis expressed that “ILYSMIH” represents a portion of her heart being offered to the world. She added that leading a life filled with love and inner tranquility hasn’t been effortless for her; she hopes this song will touch anyone who may benefit from it.

The song “ILYSMIH” is available everywhere right now, while Kali Uchis’s upcoming album “Sincerely,” is scheduled for release on May 9. You can listen to her latest single here below.
