Over the past 70 years, Godzilla has teamed up with and fought against just about everyone imaginable – from King Kong to the Justice League and the Avengers, and even, surprisingly, Bambi! Now, Godzilla is taking on a new challenge: classic literature. This is happening in Godzilla’s Monsterpiece Theater, a new series of four one-shot comics where Godzilla appears in famous stories. This builds on the original Godzilla’s Monsterpiece Theatre limited series, which is now available as a collected book. The first new comic is Romeo & Juliet and Godzilla, written by Adam Tierney and illustrated by Sean Peacock. You can see the covers and a preview of this fun and silly comic, published by IDW Entertainment, below.
Godzilla’s Monsterpiece Theatre Presents: Romeo & Juliet and Godzilla

The central idea is that Godzilla isn’t new – he’s been around for centuries, possibly even millennia, secretly appearing throughout history and in stories. It’s a bit strange to think we didn’t hear his roar in classic novels like Great Expectations, but we’re accepting it! The new comic, Romeo & Juliet and Godzilla, takes Shakespeare’s famous play and adds a giant monster twist. Expect the story to mix family feuds, a blossoming romance, and massive destruction in Verona – that famous balcony probably won’t survive! Each issue also includes a separate five-page story by Tom Scioli, beginning with Robin Hood and the Monster of Nottingham – and it’s not hard to guess who that monster is!
Sean Peacock, a fan of the classic Monsterpiece Theatre, is thrilled to be involved in the sequel, saying the book contains “some really insane stuff.” And with Godzilla crashing a Shakespearean play, that’s exactly what fans expect! Romeo & Juliet and Godzilla from IDW Entertainment will be available on April 8, 2026, and pre-orders are open until March 2. The 52-page comic book costs $7.99.
